Pairings and Complementary Flavors
Cocktails: Whiskey Sour, Gin and Tonic, fig-infused vodka Martini, Old Fashioned, Manhattan
~ The tart flavors in a Whiskey Sour balance the rich and creamy flavors of Gorgonzola.
~ The herbal notes in a Gin and Tonic offer a refreshing contrast, while the sweetness in a fig-infused Martini highlights the tangy notes within the cheese.
~ The sweetness of a whiskey-based Old Fashioned creates a good match for the savory profile of Gorgonzola. At the same time, a whiskey Manhattan offers a balance of flavors that doesn’t overpower the cheese.
Wine: Chenin Blanc, Riesling, Zinfandel, Prosecco, Moscato D’Asti
~ A Chenin Blanc can be a great match, while a late harvest Riesling with an aromatic and sweet profile balances the cheese’s tanginess.
~ A Zinfandel with ripe fruit flavors is a delightful match.
~ A light and fruity Prosecco can offer a refreshing contrast, while a lightly sweet and effervescent Moscato cuts into the richness of the cheese.
Beer: Saison, IPA, Stout, Porter, wheat beer
~ The fruity and peppery notes of Saison provide a refreshing contrast to the creaminess of Gorgonzola.
~ A malt-heavy IPA contrasts and cuts through the rich and creamy texture of the cheese.
~ Stout or Porter with coffee or chocolate undertones complements the earthy notes in the gorgonzola cheese.
~ The light body and slight sweetness of wheat beers, especially those with added fruit flavors, gently contrast Gorgonzola’s bold flavors.
Accompaniments: fruits, nuts, bread, crackers, honey, jams, vegetables, dark chocolate
~ Pears, apples, and grapes provide a refreshing and sweet counterpoint, while figs, apricots, and dates enhance the cheese’s creaminess and contrast its saltiness. Fresh berries add acidity and sweetness.
~ Walnuts, pecans, and almonds offer a crunchy texture and nutty flavor.
~ Crusty bread or seeded crackers can highlight the earthy and savory flavors of the cheese.
~ Truffle honey, spicy honey, fig jam, apricot preserves, or berry compote bring out the creaminess of the cheese.
~ Pickled vegetables such as cornichons or onions add a tangy flavor and crunchy texture, while roasted vegetables like red peppers or eggplant can be a warm accompaniment.
~ Dark chocolate creates an intriguing sweet and savory pairing.

Gorgonzola is the ultimate Blue Cheese. On a roasted garlic cracker it’s almost like candy.
